v Identify the procedure for daily checks by drivers
v Outline an example defect reporting procedure
v Outline an example procedure for dealing with vehicle breakdowns
v Explain the merits of in-house maintenance and external options
v Identify example budget and cost areas related to maintenance
v State various options for the purchase of spare parts and consumables

Section 3: Weights, Tyres and Seat-belts
Section Objectives
Having completed this section you should be able to:
v Explain the reasons for safe loading limits and how to ensure that vehicles are not overloaded
v Describe the requirements for safe tyre condition and how to make an effective tyre inspection
v Explain why the use of seat belts is important and the actions to be taken to ensure that drivers wear them

v Describe ways in which vehicle running hours can be monitored and improved

Section 5: Additional Vehicles

v Describe the options available to fleet managers if they need to expand their fleets, together with the advantages and disadvantages
v Describe the main points that must be considered when hiring in vehicles
v Explain how to present a case for acquiring an additional vehicle
v Outline various vehicle options in relation to vehicle specification.

Having completed this section you should be able to:
v Describe the effective processes for ordering fuel
v State the benefits of computer-assisted fuel sites
v State the reasons why it is vital to control the use of agency and foreign fuel keys
v Describe practices which will achieve better fuel economy
Section 7: Road Traffic Accidents
